Just some other stuff I've found that might be useful.
This SafetyCross 6-in-1 device is made of cheap plastics and doesn't feel too durable. I found them on closeout special for $15 each at the supermarket, and bought a couple for bedside use or as stocking stuffers or something. The flashlight works fine and has 3 modes: dim, brighter, and flasher mode. There's an FM radio which emits tinny sound and takes a lot of winding to keep listening to. There is no channel display, so you just tune from one station to the next, never knowing which is which. There is a compass in the crank handle, but I would not trust it at all since there are magnets in the body of the device which will throw it off. And on one of the two devices I bought, the compass was prints wrong - the 'N' pointer points due south! And finally there is an 'emergency siren' which emits a rather anemic bleating. And finally, hidden in a little compartment , there's a cord which you can connect between this device and a cellphone, in order to charge the phone. That could come in handy. You go to their website to order an adapter tip that will fit your phone.
The crank mechanism itself seems solid enough. Crank for a minute and the flashlight (in dimmest mode) should last an hour. The radio, on the other hand, seems to go about two minutes for every minute you crank.
You get what you pay for. So this isn't the classiest thing I'll ever own, but it'll do in a pinch.
